Talks
Occasionally I get invited to give talks or run workshops at conferences. Sometimes I feel brave enough to submit a presentation for a talk. Regardless of how it happens, it always means nerves, and telling myself afterwards I'm never doing it again. Here are all the times I did it again.
An introduction to R
A demonstration of the power of R, featuring a run-through of importing, cleaning and plotting data from Excel. Delivered 4 times throughout the day, it paved the way for our workshop at the NHS-R event in Birmingham later the same year.
Hands-on R workshop
A day of practical R for NHS analysts: importing from Excel and SQL Server, wrangling with dplyr, charts in ggplot2 and plotly, animation with gganimate, and automated PowerPoint creation with officer. Resources were shared ahead of time so some attendees followed along on their own laptops, others simply sat back and waited for my ill-advised attempts at live coding to backfire.
Rapid analysis and presentation of Quality Improvement data with R
Lightning talk demonstrating runcharter and spccharter.
My data.table hat trick
Lightning talk on runcharter, patientcounter and spccharter, three packages that rely heavily on the wonderful data.table package.
Dynamic SQL from R, into Shiny
Looping over a remote database using dynamic SQL from R, and visualising the query results in a Shiny dashboard.
An introduction to checks and tests
A gentle introduction to thinking about checking and testing your R code, with some example use of the tiny but powerful checkmate and tinytest packages.
